The joy of God's little creatures...

We have been enjoying Monarch butterflies since Bryce was in kindergarten. We used to get a new milkweed plant every year from Wilcox Nursery because something tragic always killed our milkweed. Like, dogs throwing them through the sky like huge throw toys! Fortunately, we have held on to this healthy milkweed and it has brought us much joy the past few years. This year Haley spotted the first caterpillar and was over joyed. I loved watching the amazement of God's creation in her eyes. I just sit and watch her and think about when Bryce and Riley were that age. The older ones are still amazed every year and they name all the caterpillars together. There are so many lessons tucked away in this silent little process. I love the conversations we have surrounding this sweet blessing. I came across this poem and thought I would share.
Butterfly Wishes
Yesterday a butterflyCame floating gently through the sky.
He soared up through the atmosphere
Then drifted close enough to hear.
I said, "I'd love to fly with you
And sail around the way you do.
It looks like it would be such fun
To fly up toward the summer sun.
But I have not your graceful charm.
I haven't wings, just these two arms.
I've been designed to walk around.
My human feet must touch the ground.
Then magically he spoke to me
and told me what his wish would be.
He said, "What I'd love most to do
Is walk upon God's Earth with you,
To squish it's mud between my toes
Or touch my finger to my nose.
I'd love just once to walk around
With human feet to touch the ground,
But I have not two legs that swing,
I haven't arms, just these two wings."
And so we went our separate ways
In wonder and surprise.
For we'd both seen God's precious gifts
Through someone else's eyes.

Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!

Our beautiful Haley is four today! How could that be? It seems like she was born yesterday. Thank you God for blessing us with this sweet little girl's presence. She is full of life. This past year she has really come out of her shell. She was very shy for a while....but has become very social. We love you so much Haley! You make your whole family smile everyday. We love your sweetness and your imagination. Watching you play makes me want to be little again. I love you soooo much! Big hugs to you!

Sweet Valentine's Day...

Valentines day was busy around here. We had a wedding to attend and family in town. But we did find time for some family sweetness! The day before we all wrote down five things we love about eachother and put them in a jar. I got this wonderful idea from imom.com. Sometimes it is so much easier to focus on the things that irritate us about eachother. We all sat in the living room and pulled each card out and whoever the card was to, they read it out loud. Wow, the kids really enjoyed this. Bryce was thankful, Riley was teary eyed, and Haley didn't know how to handle all the lovey feelings. These card spoke volumes to all of our hearts. We really needed this.
We all got a little choked up when daddy read his card from Riley, because he got emotional about her sweet words. This was so easy to do and such a memory for the kids. I think this will be a Valentine tradition.

Not Me Monday!

I did not just put my girlies down just in the nick of time....so that daddy thinks they went to bed on time...before he walks in from soccer.....because I was not on the computer trying to figure out how to put the "not me" button on my post.
Go to the site above to visit more "not me" moments....you can't click on the button...because I do not know how to do that yet...and I am not very frustrated about it!
I do not think my hubs is a little nutty about bedtime.....although he does have some good reasoning....i did not just type that.
I did not eat like a piggy this week.
I did not wonder if I was pregnant.
I was not secretly mad at my girlfriend this week because she cancelled a doggy play-date with me!
I was not a complete snot last weekend.
I did not watch my dog poop for a day to see if she pooped a green balloon....that was missing.
I was not excited when I saw her poop a green balloon!
I did not stay in my pj's all day twice this week.
I did not ignore phone calls this week!
I did not ignore laundry or any other mom duties this week.
I did not wish I could stay in bed and watch movies this week.
I did not watch moms walk laps at soccer practice this week...while I sat in my chair and ate m&ms.
The m&m's were not the 90% off chocolate I bought last week...that I said I wouldn't eat.

Not Me Monday!

I love this "Not Me Monday" that I found on MckMaMa's site above. I always get a good laugh reading them and know that I am not alone in all my "not me" moments.
I did not lose my patience with my kids while a neighbor was at my front door and I didn't have a clue until she walked in and scared me half to death.
I did not stay up until midnight playing Sequence with friends while we made our kids watch 3 movies in a row and stay up way past bed time.
I did not convince my hubby to take all 3 kids to a birthday party so I could be alone in my house. He did....I love you Ralphie!
I did not wait until the end of Christmas break to help Bryce finish his science project.
I did not buy 4lbs of Christmas chocolate at Target because it was 90% off.
I will not eat some of that chocolate today.

So Many Thoughts....

I have so many thoughts running through my head. My positive thoughts keep pushing my negative thoughts out. Which is a very good thing for me. Usually, I have to fight them a little harder. Maybe it's because last weekend I experienced one of the saddest moments ever at the funeral I mentioned in my last post....I went away for the weekend.....without my family. It really put life in perspective for me. The little things that bothered me before I left have gone unnoticed. My big babies are now out of town this week doing chores at their grandparents ranch preparing for Thanksgiving. I miss them. A lot. My littlest has been sick all week.....I wish I could take it away. I will appreciate all of her talkative, energetic moments that much more when she is well. I have a strong sense of gratitude today. Perfect timing with Thanksgiving approaching. I have even been taking in my moments with my hubby, hugging a little longer, taking time to look in his eyes when he's talking to me. (He got a little freaked out this week because I was so into him;)) I have so many positives and negatives in my life and today I'm choosing to be thankful for them all. Being grateful is intentionally counting-your-blessings every day. Kim
